Powers of attorney and affidavits
Confirm execution instructions first
Ask the Indian bank, court, registrar, or counsel whether it wants notarization, witnesses, photos, particular wording, or consular service in addition to or instead of a standard apostille workflow. Do not sign until those instructions are clear.
Vital and court records
Use an eligible certified copy
State-issued birth, death, marriage, and court records normally follow the issuing state's apostille route. A scan or ordinary photocopy may not carry an official signature the state can authenticate.
FBI and federal records
Keep the route federal
An FBI result is not converted into a state document by notarizing a copy. Eligible FBI records follow the U.S. Department of State apostille route.
Education and business
Ask for the required record form
Universities, employers, banks, and registrars may request particular transcripts, diplomas, corporate records, or signer authority. The apostille authenticates the relevant public signature or seal, not the underlying claims.
